Why Must We Turn The Dead Into Unworthy Martyrs?

It is sad for people when they learn of the death of somebody they have idolised for many years.  I know I would be devastated to hear that someone I had looked up to had passed away.  But for me, personally, to hear of the death of Michael Jackson, makes me happy.  I do know that that may sound rather cold and harsh to most, but to me he was a  criminal who preyed on young children.  If he were an everyday person, I have no doubt the courts would have found him guilty, but when a person has money and power, we as human beings can be easily swayed.  Of course, I could be wrong, but the ultimate judgment now lies before him in death, regardless of what we all think.

My whole point of this post though is to pose the question, that why is it when someone dies, regardless of what they did in life, do they become such a great person?  Even if they did achieve some amazing things, why is it though that everything evil they have done suddenly gets swept under the carpet?  We are always so quick to judge someone while they are alive yet when they are dead and we do the same, we are shamed because it is wrong to “speak ill of the dead” – at least until some time has passed.  So if we as a majority rules can label a pedophile a martyr, then when the hell is going to happen when a mass murderer, such as Martin Bryant, who killed 35 people in the Port Arthur Massacre on the 28th of April, 1996, finally dies?  I know I will be celebrating in my heart on that day, for the many people whose lives were cut short and for their families who will never be able to see them smile again.  I would also hope that many others would be sharing in my own personal joy.

Sure, Michael may not have murdered innocent people, but if he did indeed have sexual relations with young children, then he has murdered their innocence, and for them, I can guarantee that this day has probably been a blessing for them.  I know that most people who read this will not understand and may even reply quite defensively.  For me though, I know what it is like to be the child who innocence is stolen, and to hear of Michaels’ death somehow makes me feel a bit better in a way that only other people who have experienced the same thing could understand.  It makes me feel that even if we as humans can not deem who is or is not guilty, then some other greater power can.  The children of the World are our future and if we corrupt them, then what hope do we have, especially when you look at the World today?  Michael Jackson maybe gone, but we will always have his music, but when a child’s innocence is taken from them – it is lost forever.

You speak as though you knew him personally. Did you? Or are your opinions based on what the media have chosen to show you? One should not comment on something they do not ACTUALLY have knowledge of. Shame on you for judging.

I do understand what you are saying, and no, I did not know him. But people are judgmental, as even your comment would have. Please don’t take this as a personal attack, but that is the beauty about opinions – everyone has their own, and no one else has to agree with them. As long as the person feels justified in their own mind, then that is what counts, as I am sure you felt justified in what you has to say.

He was a predator. he lured children in. However, do not let him be an example of pedophiles. Pedophiles ARE good people, regardless of what the media says. Most pedophiles do not have sex with children, and even less would ever hurt them. While it is a sexual attraction, it is also an emotional attraction. pedophiles love children, and most do not want to hurt them. I advise you to read up on this. Here is a site that you could look at. Just read it, I’m not saying you need to change your opinion, I just want to see if you can see both sides of pedophilia. Not just what the media tells you. Also, there are no studies that show that a child in a consenting relationship with an adult is scarred for life or damaged. The only time they are damaged is if it is non-consensual or when the courts blow it up and question them.
